Point FWD and SecureInsights have been awarded First Place in Transportation Security Administration and TechConnectVentures ‘Power of Passengers Challenge’.

Our winning submission for Operational Efficiency adapts our Checkpoint Insight Tool to optimise and enhance checkpoint security screening at US airports.

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is responsible for general coordination and operation of aviation security at US airports. TSA screened nearly 2.3 million passengers in the United States of America at 440 federalised airports on a regular day before Covid-19.

The combined domestic and international efforts of the TSA both utilise and generate large amounts of logistical, operational, and security data. In keeping with the mission and vision of the agency, the TSA seeks to harness new approaches, as well as innovations, from other industries to improve overall security effectiveness, operational efficiency, and passenger security screening experience.

Of particular interest to the agency are approaches that provide insight into the following topics: Situational and/or operational awareness, Security screenings, Passenger arrivals, International arrival transfers, Covid-19 recovery.

Our submission

Secure Insights and Point FWD have joined forces to propose TSA how existing and new data points from the security checkpoint can lead to a full understanding of checkpoint-specific security operations.

Our solution supports improved operational efficiencies to transform the overall passenger checkpoint security screening experience. We leverage existing data that is generated in security screening process today and combine objective and reliable additional passenger process data, such as divesting times and other data points gathered by following the process from the passengers’ point of view.

The key element in our approach is to put the Passenger First, capturing the full passenger journey throughout the security screening process. This way, bottlenecks can be identified and can be related to system performance if necessary, resulting in adequate actions to optimise security checkpoint process situations.

The prize

By submitting our solution we are very delighted to have been marked as the First Prize winner in the Operational Efficiency category. Besides winning $25.000, TSA may offer non-monetary awards including (vendor) partnerships and entries to other interesting industry organisations.

As a Team, we look very much forward exploring how to operationalise our proposed solution.
