The Heathrow Terminal 2 project is a £2.5bn 400,000m² passenger terminal facility that includes a main terminal building, a satellite terminal building, a multi-storey car park and cooling station.
Firstco provided information and communication technology (ICT) engineering resources to a design, manage and integrate (DMI) framework, led by Mott Macdonald and appointed by Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL).
Firstco was engaged to develop client requirements for more than 70 systems into a full scheme design for delivery by specialist systems providers and complex building integrators.
During the delivery stage of the project, Firstco was retained to provide a technical assurance function by retaining subject matter experts (SMEs) to maintain design continuity and quality through technical responses and design reviews.
Heathrow Terminal 2 ICT system scope included:
- Communication infrastructure
- Building controls and monitoring
- Security systems
- Life safety systems
- Airport operational systems
To ensure a successful delivery of the ICT systems, Firstco worked within a strict requirements capture process from which it developed comprehensive system performance specifications underpinned by a proactive interface management ethos.
Firstco’s ability to understand and interpret the language of architects, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, communication and control engineers into a common language understood by all parties was key to the successful determination of the design and its interface requirements.
