Approximately 2,000 learners from various high schools in the City of Johannesburg, are expected to attend the fifth annual Soweto Career Expo, starting 17 May 2012 at the Orlando Community Hall, Soweto.

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has been expressively invited by the organisers, given its history of turning dreams of many a learner into reality, through its exclusive and prestigious Air Traffic Control (ATC) Bursary Programme.

ATNS’s approach on this day will be two-pronged. While we will be exhibiting and distributing brochures about the different careers available in the company, with specific focus on air traffic management (ATM), the company will also introduce its leading air traffic vontrollers to the learners, with the aim of sharing their knowledge and experiences of the aviation industry and of ATNS as a company to work for.

In its quest to address skills shortages in the aviation industry and making the aviation career accessible to South African learners, ATNS will make sure that this not-to-be-missed, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is deservedly presented to all those who will visit the company’s exhibition stall. They will be given the attention they deserve and be appropriately advised.

ATNS has, in the past few years, taken its recruitment drives to the previously disadvantaged communities within the Republic. Notable is our recent drive in the Eastern Cape, where more than 100 unemployed youths, who could not make it into to the job market and / or institutions of higher learning, were afforded the opportunity to be recipients of the ATC Bursary Programme. ATNS was partnered by the Eastern Cape Department of Transport.

This Soweto excursion by ATNS will be the second in as many days. From 11th April to 11th May 2012, ATNS was on an unprecedented Career Awareness Road Show Campaign across Johannesburg, including Soweto. Approximately 3000 Grade 12 learners, currently studying mathematics and science, were advised on careers in air traffic management.

The expo ends on Friday, 18th May 2012.
