Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), one of the world’s leading air cargo handlers, has announced the selection of CHAMP Cargosystems to supply its global customs gateway (GCG) to manage WFS’s EU import control system (ICS) requirements. WFS, which handles 3.5mt of cargo annually, joins numerous airlines and ground handlers that have already selected CHAMP to deliver EU ICS compliance before the deadline on 1 January.

The approaching deadline mandates that cargo carriers electronically provide EU customs authorities with advance information on shipments that are either in transit through the EU or destined for a member state.

CHAMP’s GCG will provide WFS with end-to-end management of its EU ICS compliancy as this gateway supports individual EU member state individual reporting requirements and data formats.

Emilio Fernandez, executive vice president, WFS Europe said: “WFS has been a customer of CHAMP for many years using its product Cargospot and it was logical for us to select them. We are experiencing a growing need for global compliance and increased demands to meet new regulatory requirements. The global customs gateway provides us with a single interface for advanced customs reporting, eliminating the need for multiple systems and reducing cost and complexity and ensuring the best profit for our airlines customers.”

James Fernandez, vice president, sales and marketing, CHAMP said: “WFS will enjoy the seamless interface that CHAMP’s global customs gateway provides to EU member states and their customs agencies.

“Through our gateway, cargo operators can meet the rapidly changing security regulations as governments worldwide tighten controls and demand advance notice of import and export freight transiting their borders.”

CHAMP provides solutions to over 90 airlines and 200 customers worldwide, including general sales agents (GSAs), ground handlers (GHAs) and freight forwarders and is an IATA strategic partner and CARGO 2000 accredited member.
