Firstco has successfully reached the final milestone of the Heathrow A1 SCADA project marking the end of their work on this time critical stage of the T2 development programme – ahead of schedule and completing the decommissioning of the A1 Centre.
A project of great complexity, this final stage saw the Firstco team deliver the HEART SCADA (Heathrow Engineering Automation and Remote Telemetry) modification works in an operational environment and on active critical systems such as the Airfield Ring Changeover System, HV Control and Monitoring and Potable Water.

Completed seamlessly with no disruption to the airport, Alan Jedras, Heathrow Senior Project Manager commented: "I would like to thank the Firstco team for completing the decommissioning of the cabling and networking of the A1 Centre, meeting the Terminal 2 Programme target date safely and with no operational impact. It provided a huge engineering challenge and following such a strong team effort the overall T2 project is in an excellent place to move forward."

Cecile Searle, Firstco Project Manager: "This achievement has been recognised throughout Heathrow as a major success on what is considered by all, a complex package of work. We look forward to delivering similar packages in the future as development and modernisation of control systems around Heathrow continues."

Firstco has been leading the decommissioning of HEART related services in the A1 Centre for Heathrow Airport to allow the demolition of the Old Control Tower. The area is required to make way for construction work on the major Terminal 2 replacement programme, to fulfil Heathrow’s ambition to make every passenger journey better across the airport. This final stage of the project which was handed over to Heathrow Airport Limited in November, follows Firstco’s successful migration of all live HEART services away from the A1 Centre and into new or modified outstations across the estate.
