After supplying the baggage handling system for the new passenger terminal at Nizhny Novgorod Airport in 2015, ALSTEF has been chosen to supply the baggage handling system (BHS) for the new Terminal B in Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, which is the largest Airport in Russia, and is host to the Aeroflot hub.

In anticipation of the FIFA Football World Cup scheduled to take place in Russia in 2018, most of the largest Russian airports located in the host cities are renovating their passenger terminals, or adding new ones to welcome the football supporters with the best level of service.

This new Terminal B is part of a major modernisation and expansion project at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport that includes an automatic people mover, and a baggage transportation system between the terminals.

It will be dedicated to domestic flights and will become operational at the beginning of 2018. ALSTEF will design, manufacture and install the baggage handling system for Terminal B, which will have an annual capacity of 15 million passengers.

This BHS will be a state-of-the-art system. It will include automatic baggage security screening, automatic baggage sortation with a tilt tray sorter, and automatic storage of early bags thanks to the ALSTEF BAGSHUTTLE® system. There will also be an automatic connection between the Terminal B BHS and the inter-terminal baggage transportation system.

As there will be many passengers in transit from the international terminals, the IT system developed by ALSTEF to control the Terminal B BHS will be fully integrated with the IT systems of the other terminals. This will ensure perfect control and tracking of passengers and baggage throughout the entire transfer process in Sheremetyevo Airport, for both security and customs purposes.

Terminal B BHS and the interconnection with the other terminals will be fully managed by ALSTEF BAGWARE® software package. BAGWARE will not only manage the automatic sortation of the baggage, but also track the security and customs status of passengers and baggage.

ALSTEF will also be responsible for the full maintenance and operations of Terminal B BHS for the next ten years.
