Cavotec, the global engineering group, has secured major orders for ground support and fuelling equipment at Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Delhi International Airport.
In a sign of Cavotec’s growing presence on the Indian market, Cavotec is to supply aircraft fuelling pits for the second phase of Mumbai International Airport’s expansion programme. This follows the successful installation of similar pit systems for the first phase of the programme, and brings the total number of Cavotec in-ground fuelling units at the airport to 175.
"The performance of Cavotec equipment during the first phase [of the programme] meant that our customers were keen to continue working with us," says Nicklas Pihl, managing director of Cavotec India.
CSIA, formerly Sahar International Airport, currently handles more than 25 million passengers annually, and is served by international carriers, such as Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways and Cathay Pacific. CSIA is also a domestic hub for several Indian airlines, including Air India, Blue Dart Aviation, Kingfisher, GoAir, Indian Airlines, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetLite and SpiceJet.
Designed by SOM Architects, the new terminal will cover more than 4.8 million square feet and will have the capacity to handle some 40 million passengers annually when fully operational. The new terminal is due to open in 2013. The terminal will have one gate configured to receive the A380 aircraft and a further two gates will be readily adaptable for the A380.
Remaining in India, Cavotec has also won an important first-time order for a number of hydrant pits that will be installed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at the Delhi Aviation Fuel Facility.
