Last year leading designer and manufacturer of innovative products, solutions and services for airfield operations, ADB Airfield Solutions and manufacturer and supplier of LED lighting and solar photovoltaic systems, Carmanah Technologies teamed up to provide a range of solar-based LED aviation lighting. The exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland is Friars Marketing, which also ships worldwide on a daily basis.

ADB has now released the solar runway guard light system (SRGLS) and the solar wind cone system (SWCS) to its already impressive line up of solar airfield products.

The new LED solar runway guard light system (SRGLS) is an ideal choice for an airfield that requires improved safety measures, but experiences difficulties with grid access. The SRGLS consists of an elevated unidirectional flashing yellow solar-powered runway guard light (SRGL) and a solar engine power supply (SEPS). The SRGLS installs in minutes with no trenching, cabling, or external power, and can be relocated just as quickly.

The new LED solar wind cone system (SWCS) is an ideal choice for an airfield that requires improved safety measures, but experiences difficulties with grid access. SWCS consists of either an L-806 or L-807 solar-powered wind cone (SWC) and a solar engine power supply (SEPS). The SWC provides visual surface wind direction and velocity information to pilots in flight or on the ground at airports and heliports. The SEPS incorporates the latest technology in solar technology, hardware and software to provide power and control to the SWC.

ADB’s existing products are just as impressive and include the solar aviation taxiway obstruction (SATO) LED lights, which is a self-contained, high-performance, low maintenance and easy-to-install solar-powered light source for permanent, temporary or emergency lighting in aviation and industrial environments. It can be applied to taxiway edge lighting, apron edge lighting, emergency airfield and helipad lighting, construction barricade lighting on airfields and obstruction lighting. The SATO offers sophistication, intelligence and performance that is unrivalled by any other light on the market whether it be for permanent, temporary or emergency lighting.

The range also includes the solar aviation runway/threshold (SART) solar LED aviation and obstruction lights, which are a self-contained, high-performance, low-maintenance and easy-to-install solar-powered light source for aviation and obstruction applications. SART can be used for runway/threshold, taxiway edge lighting, apron edge lighting, emergency airfield and helipad lighting, construction barricade lighting on airfields and obstruction lighting. It is available with infrared capability and can be configured to suit the exact application for which they are installed.

The solar aviation wireless LED (SAWL) solar LED aviation lights have been designed for on command performance in extreme conditions. SAWL features an innovative combination of solar power, LEDs and an optional secure wireless control system. The control system allows for on-command operation from ground or air over a range of up to 2.48 miles (4km). It can be used for runway edge lighting (ICAO Annex 14), portable or expedited airfield lighting, emergency runway lighting, helipad lighting, threshold lighting and obstruction lighting. SAWL is compact and self-contained and ADB SAWL solar lights offer remote control capabilities, dual mode visible and infrared outputs and portable carrying handles.

Finally the LED Solar Obstruction Lighting System (SOLS) is Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant. It is a modular, stand-alone, self-contained solar-powered obstruction warning lighting system for towers and other structures. During the day the solar panel charges the battery and at night the photocell automatically activates the LED obstruction light until dawn. Dusk-to-dawn light control is activated by ambient solar lighting levels (Turn on at 35fc / Turn off at 52fc) via a FAA-approved photocell.

With today’s emphasis on green and sustainable solutions, ADB solar aviation LED lighting offers ease of use and low maintenance with an extremely low carbon footprint.

All of the solar airfield products can be installed easily without the aid of specialised work crews, there is limited air traffic disruption during installation and the products start working immediately.
