Routes Europe, now in its seventh year, is the largest of the regional route development events organised by UBM Aviation Routes. It has seen year-on-year growth, with over 600 delegates, including 100 airlines, from across Europe and beyond, expected to attend this year. This is the first time the event has taken place in the Baltic region, and Tallinn Airport, this year’s host, is keen to show the potential of Estonia as a unique and diverse leisure and business destination.
This annual event is the only network-planning occasion where airlines, airports and tourism authorities meet to discuss route development for the entire European region. With more than 3,000 meetings taking place over three days, Routes Europe offers an unrivalled platform for airlines and airports to do business face-to-face with the industry’s key decision-makers.
Development: past and present
Routes Europe 2012 will see the development and evolution of key elements from past events. Two years ago saw the addition of Route Exchange briefings at Routes Europe. Part of Routesonline, Route Exchange is an online trading zone for new routes, and by taking the online product into Routes events, airlines are given the opportunity to promote their brand and discuss their requirements for potential new services or additional frequencies to their target airport market.
This year, more Route Exchange Airline Briefings will be given by senior network planners than at previous regional events. Briefings from Aer Lingus and Flybe are already confirmed, with more airlines expected to commit in the coming weeks.

New for 2012
Routes Europe 2012 will witness the first Routes Europe Strategy Forum. This integrated conference will give valuable insight into aviation across Europe, and will be delivered by leading industry experts from throughout the region.
Similar strategy forums will take place at other Routes regional events during the year, culminating in the World Route Development Strategy Summit, which will take place during World Routes in Abu Dhabi in September. The strategy forum is free to attend for all registered Routes Europe delegates, and promises to be a lively and stimulating occasion.
This year will see the addition of more one-to-one meetings for all delegates and the introduction of Sunday appointments in addition to the existing two-day meeting programme. Airport delegates attending Routes Europe in 2012 will also have the opportunity to arrange ‘city pair’ meetings with other airports at no additional cost. These market-to-market engagements will allow the two airports to identify new opportunities, share ideas, and exchange data and contacts to jointly plan strategies and presentations to give the airlines a complete route picture.
Routes Europe connects the entire European market and continues to attract the right people – those who decide Europe’s future air routes. Routes Europe will provide all attendees with an opportunity to prepare for World Routes in Abu Dhabi.
