London Stansted Airport ’s CEO Ken O’Toole urged the UK Government to set out a national aviation strategy to help expand airports in the country.
He said that the new strategy should ensure space at the airports can be used to create positive impacts for consumers and the economy.
As Britain prepares to leave the European Union (EU), O’Toole claimed it is essential to improve the country’s connectivity with the rest of the world to help it succeed as an outward-facing trading nation.
Canadian company Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan collaborated with Danish Arbejdsmarkedets Tillægspension (ATP) to acquire a 57.7% stake in Copenhagen Airports (CPH ) for approximately DKK 9.8bn (€1.3bn).
The shares will be purchased from the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund III (MEIF3), which offered to divest its securities in Kastrup Airport Parents (KAP), a holding company that indirectly owns a 57.7% stake in CPH .
ATP will provide the financing required to fully fund the acquisition, after which the company will become a direct stakeholder in KAP.
The project was introduced by a consortium of Fraport and the Greek Copelouzos Group, which holds the concession to operate the airports.
The modernisation of baggage handling systems will enable the airports to ensure increased reliability and security of baggage transport to and from the country.
Allegheny County Airport Authority unveiled plans for a $1.1bn modernisation and upgrade project of the Pittsburgh International Airport in the US.
The major plan involves the development of a new landside terminal adjacent to the refurbished airside terminal with 51 gates.

Bangalore International Airport (Bial ) signed an agreement with Irish management consulting company Accenture to establish a new co-innovation centre at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in India.
The centre will use advanced technologies to incubate and develop new digital solutions with an aim to enhance passenger services at the Greenfield airport.

A new report published by global information technology (IT) provider SITA revealed that airports and airlines intend to invest approximately $33bn in IT this year.
Titled ‘SITA 2017 Air Transport IT Trends Insights’, the new report states the industries are focusing their technology investments on similar priorities, such as cyber-security, cloud technologies, and passenger self-services.
This year, the expenditure of the airports as a percentage of revenue is set to rise to an anticipated 5.05% or $8.43bn, while that of airlines is expected to rise to an estimated 3.30% or $24.3bn.
ROCKWELL COLLINS signed a strategic agreement for the global distribution of Inmarsat’s latest SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) flight deck connectivity solution, which is designed to enhance safety and operational efficiency for aircraft.
SB-S is a secure flight deck communications system that meets strict aviation requirements for safety and operational data exchange with ground personnel.
It comprises an aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (ACARS), as well as safety and operational services over a secured internet protocol address (IP) data link and multiple voice channels.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI ) is set to upgrade existing airports in Lucknow and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Deoghar in Jharkhand.
The AAI will also develop a new greenfield airport at Hirasar in the Rajkot district of Gujarat.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in the US is set to undergo a $70m terminal renovation with the refurbishment of Concourse B as part of the facility’s Destination CLT project.
The upgrade will include installation of new wall panels and ceiling tiles, laying new carpet in the seating areas, and providing improved seating arrangements with integrated power USB ports.
In addition, terrazzo flooring will be placed in the centre walkway of the concourses to better accommodate rolling luggage.
Smiths Detection secured a new contract to supply 35 units of its advanced HI-SCAN 10080 XCT hold baggage scanner to Frankfurt Airport in Germany.
The scope of the order also includes an associated service agreement for a period of eight years.
The installation of the new scanners will enable Frankfurt Airport to modernise its solutions to the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Standard 3 explosives detection systems that will provide enhanced security and operational efficiency to the airport baggage system.
