Global air transport communications provider SITA has developed a new mobile app for Indian flag carrier, Air India.

Built on SITA’s iTravel platform, the new app has been designed to allow Air India passengers to book, check-in and manage all aspects of their journey from their mobile device.

With the new app, Air India intends to meet increasing demands for mobile services in India and encourage direct consumer booking, both from domestic and international locations.

Available on Android, iOS and Windows platforms, the app enables passengers to select their seat and in-flight meal, make changes to their itinerary, purchase additional services and check in.

Air India customers will also receive regular flight updates and be able to use the app for mobile boarding purposes.

The app has been integrated with Air India’s Flying Returns loyalty programme to help passengers securely access and update their accounts.

“The new app, developed by SITA, provides an elevated mobile experience where passengers can easily manage every step of their journey on their phone or tablet no matter where they are.”

SITA recently announced that its new baggage robot, Leo, is touring Asian regions, including Singapore and Hong Kong.

The tour is a part of the development of future baggage handling systems, currently being explored by SITA’s lab technology research team.
