The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is to invest N19bn ($117.29m) in modernising the country’s airports.

According to managing director George Uriesi, the airports will be upgraded to an international standard.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation Fidelia Njeze had originally proposed spending N90bn on constructing new airports, but because of the time it would take to build a new one, the present administration would focus on remodelling 12 facilities.

Uriesi said that funds were available and that the project would start soon.
