Foster + Partners has unveiled plans to create a new £50bn international airport at the Thames Estuary in the UK.

Foster + Partners, Halcrow and Volterra worked together on a self-funded study to produce a detailed vision for the Thames Hub.

Foster’s plans include a four-runway airport, which will have a capacity to handle 150 million passengers a year and will be located on the Hoo Peninsula, 55km from London.

The proposed new Thames Hub will have a railway terminus, a freight depot and a port, along with a new Thames Barrier and a new four-track high-speed passenger and freight railway.
