The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) in India is to issue a request for qualification for the Rs100bn ($2bn) Navi Mumbai International Airport project in December 2011.
CIDCO had planned to call for a proposal by June, but a delay in government clearances and land acquisition pushed the schedule back, according to thehindubusinessline.com.
The proposed airport project requires 2,054ha; the main airport zone needs 1,615ha and will consist of an on-airport area of 1,200ha for aeronautical activities and an off-airport area of 415ha for non-aeronautical activities.
The airport will have two parallel runways for independent parallel operations with full-length taxiways on either side.
The airfield was designed to accommodate large aircraft that are compatible with aerodrome code 4-F, which conforms to International Civil Aviation Organisation specifications.
The new airport will have a passenger handling capacity of ten million passengers in its first operational year of 2012, increasing to 20 million by 2020, 30 million in 2025 and 40 million by 2030.
