Germany’s Frankfurt Airport (FRA), operated by Fraport, handled approximately 6.3 million passengers in August, registering a 5% growth in passenger traffic compared to the same month in 2016.

Over the last eight months, the airport reported accumulated passenger growth of 4.5%.

Last month, cargo throughput, including both airfreight and airmail, saw a year-on-year increase of 5.4% to 181,102t.

The airport’s accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) during the month reached about 2.7 million metric tonnes, up by 1.8% year-on-year, and exceeded the previous August record achieved in 2015 by nearly 1,000t.

The FRA also registered a 2.7% growth in aircraft movements, including both takeoffs and landings, taking the total number to 42,934.

In addition to FRA, group airports in Fraport’s international portfolio also reported a significant traffic growth in August.

Slovenia’s Ljubljana (LJU) Airport handled 196,416 passengers (up by 18.9%), while Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru recorded a 10.5% increase in traffic with more than 1.9 million passengers.

Located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the Fraport Twin Star airports of Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) posted a combined increase of 4.4% to 1.3 million passengers.

In addition, 14 Greek airports recorded a combined traffic growth of 8.3% with approximately 5.1 million passengers last month.

In July, FRA handled nearly 6.4 million passengers, with a 4.4% growth in traffic compared to the same month last year.

From January to July, the airport reported an accumulated passenger growth of 4.5%.
