More than 100 flights have been cancelled as a result of a strike by French air traffic controllers (ATC).

The strike is the 14th by ATCs in 2016, and has impacted the services of several airlines, including Ryanair and British Airways.

Ryanair cancelled 22 flights on Wednesday and 72 on Thursday.

"This French… strike will impact hundreds of thousands of European consumers and throw their travel plans into chaos."

Several airlines have advised  passengers to check the status of their flights.

Ryanair was quoted by BBC as stating: "This French… strike will impact hundreds of thousands of European consumers and throw their travel plans into chaos once more.

"It's high time that the European Commission takes action to prevent these repeated… strikes from continuously disrupting the travel plans of millions of Europe's citizens and their families."
