Dubai International Airport is set to implement two new technologies at Terminal 3 to streamline the check-in and immigration checks at departure.

With an aim to offer enhanced travel experience to its passengers, the airport will soon launch new biometric technology and automated border control gates at the terminal.

Emirates airline, Dubai Customs, Dubai General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Police and Dubai Airports have collaborated to review all traveller touch points at the airport.

With the integration of the two new initiatives, the airport will be able to process passengers faster and ensure smoother traffic flow through various checkpoints at Terminal 3.

GDRFA major general Mohammed Ahmed Almarri said: “We are pleased to roll-out these new initiatives at Terminal 3 departures in collaboration with Emirates and our airport stakeholders.

“We believe this will make our operations more efficient, free up our valuable manpower to focus on other responsibilities, and ultimately improve traveller experience.”

The biometric technology will provide a facial recognition solution integrated with the UAE Wallet that will allow passengers to register and store their biometric data through several methods, such as taking a selfie on their mobile phones or using biometric registration kiosks installed at check-in areas and Emirates Lounges.

Travellers can use the biometric data to expedite their journey through immigration at Terminal 3 departures at the airport.

In addition, the terminal will be equipped with smart immigration gates where checks can be automatically integrated with biometric validation technology.

The two projects are expected to be completed over the next 12 to 18 months.
