Thales has signed a deal with Airways New Zealand to deliver its automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) network across New Zealand.

The contract was awarded through an international tender after a series of trials.

The French electronic systems company will install ADS-B ground stations in 28 locations in order to improve coverage and optimise air surveillance in areas with limited radar coverage.

Heathrow Airport in the UK has contracted seven companies, including Amec Foster Wheeler, Arup, Atkins, Grimshaw, Mott MacDonald, Jacobs and Quod, to design its expansion.

Amec Foster Wheeler is responsible for sustainability strategies and environmental impact assessments, while Arup will help to enhance passenger and baggage handling services.

Grimshaw will serve as the concept architect and Jacobs will provide planning and engineering services.
