3 September 2010

Japan has cancelled over 200 domestic and international flights to its southern islands because of a typhoon alert.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said on 31 August that Typhoon Kompasu, which has a force of up to 216km per hour near its centre, is approaching Okinawa and nearby subtropical islands.

The cancellation of 216 flights is expected to affect 15,000 passengers, according to todayonline.com.
