US citizens want improvements to aviation infrastructure, according to a new aviation security and safety survey by HNTB Corporation.
In the survey, 62% of Americans said they care most about improvements to either in-flight or pre-flight safety.
Overall convenience received 21% of votes, while sustainability obtained 12% in the survey.
According to HNTB, next-generation air transportation systems, also known as NextGen, will be a major component of future aviation infrastructure improvements.
NextGen is a satellite-based digital navigation and communication system designed to replace radar-based systems introduced in the 1940s.
In the nationwide survey involving 1,007 randomly selected US citizens, 53% of participants supported the move towards NextGen technology.
