Louis Armstrong International Airport in the US is embarking on a $755m modernisation project to improve its airport facilities.
Construction work has already begun on ten of the 16 projects, following a delay due to Hurricane Katrina.
Extensive renovations will take place to the airport's terminal and concourse D, which includes adding a new rotunda and six new departure gates.
Construction work has also begun on an aircraft rescue station, and $9m has been allocated for the airport's digital signage and lighting.
The 16 projects are being financed by passenger facility charges and airport revenues, while the Federal Aviation Administration is providing funds for runway extension work.
The New Orleans Aviation Board has said it may explore privatisation of the airport in the future.
