New Plans for Improved Transport Revealed for Cardiff International Airport

11 July 2008

Plans to improve access to Cardiff International Airport in Wales have been unveiled by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The blueprint sets out to transform links to and from the airport in the Vale of Glamorgan following a passenger survey last year revealed dissatisfaction with road access to the airport.

The growth of Cardiff International has led to increased traffic in and out of the airport.

Speaking to WalesOnline, an Assembly Spokesman said "Details of the options under consideration, including train and bus service improvements, as well as three potential road improvement schemes are now on public display at a series of exhibitions around the area designed to canvas public opinion."

Consultants Arup have drawn up detailed proposals, which include widening access roads and diverting traffic to other roads.

The proposals were revealed at roadshows organised by the Welsh Assembly Government and Arup.

Depending on responses, the Welsh Assembly Government and necessary planning consents, work on the chosen scheme could start in two years, writes WalesOnline.
