T5 Trouble Bonus for Virgin

13 June 2008

BA’s shambolic opening of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 (T5) has been a blessing for rival Virgin Atlantic, which claims to have seen increased sales.

Virgin passenger numbers increased 6% last month, with strong sales on services to the Caribbean and the US despite a downturn in consumer confidence and rising fuel surcharges.

Virgin Atlantic Director of Communications Paul Charles said the airline has definitely taken market share post-T5.

Virgin Atlantic said that premium sales in May were up 10% for the second successive month, while T5’s sole tenant BA reported a 0.7% drop in traffic.
