Albany Trials LED Lights

13 June 2008

Albany International Airport is trialing an installation of LED lighting in its parking garage, a move that would cut electricity usage by 75%.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center said fitting LED lighting fixtures with occupancy sensors would cut the airports electricity bill by US$10,00 – US$15,000 a floor each year.

The lamps, which last at least 11 years, dim when no motion is detected, thereby saving electricity.

The researchers plan to install the lighting on the fourth floor of the building this autumn.
