Budapest Airport has invested more than €3.5m in new security screening equipment, due to be installed this week.
The x-ray machines, from Smiths Heimann, work on the same principal as computer tomography, showing the contents of the baggage being screened from two angles.
After software development the machines will be able to recognise liquid explosives and screen laptops without the need to separate them from cases, following the adoption of the necessary legislation in the EU.
The airport is also expanding its security staff by employing 100 passenger-screening agents to reach a total of 350.
