Gold Coast Begins New Terminal Work

10 June 2008

Australia's Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta has begun work on constructing a new A$100m terminal, following the recent completion of a runway extension.

The new terminal is scheduled to be ready for operations by March 2010.

Also planned is an underground tunnel under the runway extension, to be used by motorists once a nearby bypass is complete, the airport says.

Key features of the new terminal building will include a common check-in area with 36 check-in desks plus self-service kiosks; full checked-bag screening; expanded inspection facilities for international arrivals; and a common screening area.

New retail and food outlets will also be made available, along with landside currency exchange; convenience store; bus information; and the Rainbow Bay ale house.
