India Upgrades 16 Non-Metro Airports

10 June 2008

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) says up to 16 non-metro airports will be completely redeveloped by the end of the year.

The AAI plans to modernise a total of 35 non-metro airports across the country by 2010.

Non-metro airports include those apart from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Modernisation of these airports includes construction of a new terminal building or upgrading the existing terminal, runway extensions and the construction of aprons and car parks where needed.

Work for the 16 will cost around Rs 1,840 crore.
