The European Investment Bank has granted Aeroporti di Roma, operator of Rome's Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, to support its 2008-2017 investment plan.
The funding, which is guaranteed by Banca Infrastrutture e Sviluppo, a part of Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo, will be used to expand Fiumicino Airport and pay off some of its existing debt.
Fiumicino intends to expand its new Pier C, which is dedicated to international flights, with new loading bridges and a new baggage handling system.
The airport also plans to build new office towers and refurbish runway one to allow large aircraft such as the Airbus A380 to use the facility.
