British Airways has transferred eight long-haul flights to the new Heathrow Terminal 5 and says all remaining flights will be moved by the end of October.
BA put on extra staff to cope with the new flights in an effort to avoid the chaotic scenes when the £4.3bn new facility opened at the end of March.
The move was originally scheduled for the end of April, but was delayed after the shambolic opening of the terminal saw the baggage system fail with thousands of bags lost and hundreds of flights cancelled.
All long-haul flights still operating from T4 were expected to move at the end of this week, but most will now move in mid-September and October, BA says.
"The phased move has been planned in the interests of our passengers and the smooth operation of Heathrow over the busy summer period," BA and operator BAA say in a joint statement.
The delay will have a knock-on effect on other airlines, which are waiting to move into T4.
