Finavia Selects Baggae System for Helinski-Vantaa Extension

05 June 2008

Finnish airport authority Finavia has awarded FKI Logistics a US$66.6m contract to design and install a new energy-efficient baggage handling system at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport's international terminal.

FKI's new LS-4000E tilt-tray sortation system provides space and energy savings and has not been installed elsewhere.

The system consists of two energy-efficient LS-4000E sorters, and a CrisBag system for high-speed sort-and-transport between terminals, with 1,500 positions for early baggage storage.

A computerised allocation system will also be installed to manage baggage flow.

The baggage handling system will form part of an extension to the Helsinki-Vantaa International Terminal.

The airport extension is expected to open in January 2010.
