Manchester Opens Security Screening Area

Manchester Airport has opened a new £10m security screening area, which it says will speed up security checks.

Manchester Airports Group says it spent more than £2.2m on new x-ray machines, which provide full colour, 3-D images of the contents of hand baggage.

Ten lanes are now fully operational in Terminal 1, with four more due to open in June.

Manchester Airport's Managing Director Andrew Cornish says the new security screening area is a big step forward.

"We've got new, faster, x-ray machines, more security lanes than ever before and a specially designed security hall to put passengers as ease as much as possible during what we know is one of the most stressful parts of airport travel," he says.
