Smith's iLane Screening System Installed in US

30 April 2008 14:27

Baltimore-Washington International has installed the first linked screening system in the US.

The Smith Detection iLane automated security inspection process includes the Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (aTiX) system.

Two baggage pathways connect to the aTiX, enabling security screeners to divert a bag to a separate screening area without stopping other cleared carry-on luggage.

The diverted bag remains in eyesight of the owner who can move along with the carry-on to the designated secondary screening area.

Unlike current X-ray systems, aTiX captures multiple views of carry-on bags in a single sweep in the normal throughput time.

The system also includes powerful software algorithms to help detect potentially harmful items.
