American Airlines Slates Heathrow

29 April 2008

American Airlines has slammed Heathrow Airport, labelling it the worst European airport it uses.

The airline’s head of customer service Don Langford told the BBC the site suffers a lack of investment.

Langford says the airport is "trying to put ten pounds of sugar in a five-pound bag".

American Airlines says it is the fourth largest carrier at Heathrow in terms of available seats and flies out of Terminal 3.

Langford says the terminal is "a bit of a dump".

"If you look at the fabric of the building, if you look at where customers check-in - missing light bulbs, duck tape on the floor.

"I would have to say that Heathrow is in many ways the worst of all the airports that my company flies to in Europe."

Airport operator BAA's corporate affairs director Tom Kelly says £4bn will be invested in the airport over the next five years, but it takes time for change to happen.
