Perth to Announce Domestic Airport Upgrade02 April 2008 14:25 Westralia Airports Corporation is expected to make an announcement about a major upgrade of Perth's Domestic Airport within weeks. The announcement, by the airport's Chief Executive Brad Geatches, comes after criticism of the airport's facilities by Perth Premier Alan Carpenter. Carpenter says the airport is an embarrassment to the state and requires and immediate upgrade, ABC News reports. "Because I don't want to stand in queues with people who are embarrassed if they are Western Australians or very, very unhappy if they are visitors coming in to WA and seeing Perth Airport and thinking that somehow or other that reflects upon the state broadly," he says. Geatches says a announcement on redevelopment will be made within weeks, including a decision on moving the domestic airport to the same site as the international terminal in the short-term. "We're on the job, there's no lack of commitment, there is no lack of preparedness to invest," he says. By staff writer » Email this link to a friend |
