Beijing Opens Third Terminal

29 February 2008

Beijing Capital International Airport has opened its third terminal, as the city prepares for this summer's Olympic Games.

The terminal is the world's biggest building, housing 1.3 million square meters of floor space.

The US$3.8bn (CNY27bn) terminal was completed ahead of schedule, going from commissioning to completion in just over four years.

The terminal will enable the entire airport to handle 76 million passengers a year by 2015.

Beijing is investing more than US$67bn on infrastructure projects including roads, subways, sports stadiums and the new terminal ahead of the Olympics.
