Philippines' Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 is to close to allow Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) to become the country's premier facility.
President Gloria Arroyo says NAIA will close within a year once DMIA is brought up to standard.
DMIA is currently undergoing major renovations, including the expansion of its passenger terminal.
The work, which will allow it to handle two million passengers per year, is due to finish in early March.
