ASUR has selected SITA’s technology to expand the capacity of Cancun International Airport in Mexico, as part of a multi-year agreement.

The airport operator, ASUR, has also selected the technology to provide flexible services to meet the needs of the 47 airlines that use it.

New Terminal 4 at Cancun Airport now has 36 SITA AirportConnect self-service check-in kiosks in addition to a further 104 common-use workstations for check-in and boarding.

The passenger systems will run on SITA’s common-use platform ‘AirportConnect Open’ that allows any airline to use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk.

ASUR CEO Adolfo Castro said: “The design and integrated technologies provided by SITA will ensure that our passengers will enjoy a smooth and relaxed journey through the airport while our airlines will find it easy to operate here.”

Cancun is already using SITA’s Airport Management solution and will now manage operations across all four terminals.

The airport will also install SITA AirportVision, the media-rich flight information display system in Terminal 4, to update passengers with regard to real-time information throughout the check-in and boarding areas.

SITA Latin America vice-president Elbson Quadros said: “This new terminal will provide extra capacity as Cancun continues to grow as a destination.

“In addition, the technology that ASUR has chosen from SITA will provide extra flexibility and maximise the new space available.”

Across Mexico and the Caribbean, ASUR operates ten airports that together serve close to 30 million passengers annually.
