In 2003 at an airline and airport 'summit' meeting in Seattle a group of airlines, airports and technology suppliers began meeting to look at creating this new standard and (after many, many meetings) the goal is nearly complete. It has been remarkable in that for the first time, vendors and the industry have cooperated to produce a major rewrite of a critical industry infrastructure. The result is a new standard or recommended practice for CUPPS that is recognized jointly by all three industry standards bodies: IATA, ATA, and ACI (also a first).
