Liberty-STAR part of turnkey solution for airport communications

SolaCom Technologies, a communications solution company that enables interoperability over any network infrastructure, announced at the ATC Global 08 Exhibition and Conference today, that it has been selected to install its market-leading Liberty-STAR voice communication control system (VCCS) at Reina Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba.

The turnkey solution will deliver, install and provide factory and site training to the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba. The installation will include eight touch screen operator positions, ten radio interfaces and 20 telephone interfaces.

"This contract further solidifies SolaCom's position as the leading VCCS supplier for the Caribbean and Central American region, with installations in Barbados, Venezuela, the Bahamas, Colombia, Mexico and the Cayman Islands, among other countries," said Pierre Plangger, Vice President ATC Sales and Marketing.

The Liberty-STAR VCCS includes:

  • Mission-critical air-ground/ground-ground voice switch
  • Easy-to-use, touch screen operator consoles

Aruba is an island located 30km off the Venezuelan coast with a population of 104,000. The recently updated Reina Beatrix International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean region boasting a yearly passenger capacity of 2.6 million people.

The new VCCS was required to replace the airport's aging unit installed in 1996.
