Selex ES, a Finmeccanica company, has signed a contract with Aéroports de Paris (ADP), one of the leading European airport groups, to supply a baggage handling system for Paris-Orly airport, the second French stopover and the 10th in Europe with traffic of 2.7 million passengers.

The system, which will be completed by January 2014, will extend and renew the international baggage claim area of the South Terminal of Paris-Orly airport.

The project includes creating a third line of baggage claim, comprising the lines for deposit and transport in the baggage gallery on the apron side and an inclined carousel for the delivery of baggage to passengers. Moreover, the existing line for oversized luggage will be replaced by a new one able to manage a larger number of bags.

This work is part of the modernisation plan of Paris-Orly (Aéroports de Paris), which has the objective of enhancing the quality of services for both passengers and customer airlines.

Selex ES has already developed other important projects in the airport sector. For Rome-Fiumicino airport, the company has delivered the Net6000 system for transit baggage handling that has reduced by 40% the amount of lost or mishandled luggage. Selex ES has also delivered the baggage handling and sorting system for Terminal 5 of that same airport.
