GLOBECOMM SYSTEMS ATC VSAT NETWORK SOLUTIONAmong its wide range of products and services, Globecomm offers a next generation air traffic control / management solution. This application is based on the newest technology available using the Frequency Hopping / Time Division Multiple Access (FH / TDMA) architecture, which is ideally suited for both the traffic and connectivity requirements of the network. In this type of network, multiple low rate TDMA carriers support the network traffic. The resulting low data rates in the transmission mean that each remote terminal's uplink power (and therefore the size and rating of the transmission equipment) can be minimised. An added benefit is that full 'mesh' connectivity (i.e. communication directly between all terminals in the network) can then be achieved by frequency hopping among the several carriers on the network. Another important feature of the TDMA design is that expansion of the network capacity can be achieved without any upgrades to the terminals. In addition, the TDMA subsystem incorporates a Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) capability so that capacity sharing among the terminals is realised. This minimises the recurring satellite bandwidth costs. OUR LATEST AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL PROJECTAn example of our broad capability is shown in the recently awarded contract for an Air Traffic Management (ATM) communications network in Egypt for the National Air Navigation Services Company (NANSC). Globecomm's solution will replace an existing facility with a next generation network providing more capacity, and linking radar data, aircraft communications and other voice and data services from 19 remote sites throughout Egypt to a hub station at the Cairo Air Navigation Centre (CANC).
