From its inception in 1973, General Digital has delivered scores of standard and custom flat-panel products, optical enhancements and software solutions. Additionally, it has worked diligently to deliver scores of standard and custom flat-panel products, optical enhancements and software solutions to the air traffic management industry. General Digital gladly offers its engineering services to customers who require special customization to meet their commercial, industrial or military requirements.
Specifically designed for the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), GenStar™ Series of sunlight readable LCD monitors are the primary tower displays for both commercial and military airfields. They are also used on airport surface detection equipment (ASDE-X) as tower displays. The latest model, the GenStar III, utilizes an LED backlight system for increased performance and longevity, and is available with either a 19in or 20in display.
In their standard configuration, all GenStar monitors share many features: specially designed optical enhancements to improve viewability in direct sunlight; a backlight cooling system; and an intelligent backlight controller which - among other duties - monitors system performance to avoid critical failures by implementing "soft failure" algorithms, and records performance and failure data using a date/time stamp log.
Optionally available is General Digital's 'intelligent replace before failure' software utility, which analyzes performance/failure data to facilitate failure diagnosis and service.
Standard luminance and sunlight readable flat-panel LCD monitors
General Digital's Saber Standalone™ sunlight readable LCD screens are used on STARS as a supplemental display. Additionally, standard luminance and sunlight readable Saber Standalone LCD screens, with and without touch screens, are designed to provide air traffic control specialists with static and dynamic data regarding weather and other safety-critical operational data.
This information benefits air traffic control towers, radar approach control facilities, en route centers, automated flight service stations, weather stations, maintenance facilities, training facilities, airline and airport operations, and military airfields.
General Digital's rugged aluminum enclosures are designed to withstand the rigors of commercial, industrial and military environments alike. The enclosures are completely irradiated to provide protection from corrosion and improve shielding properties where parts make contact with one another. All external surfaces are finished with a durable black powder coat finish.
The Saber Series sunlight readable LCD screens, in standard and sunlight-readable luminance variants, are designed to be used either as portable displays, or be mounted using the supplied mounting holes located on the rear or sides of the enclosure. These models facilitate the integration of standard or custom pedestals, yokes, cradles or articulating arms.
Flip-up LCD monitor with integral keyboard and pointing device
The company's rack-mounted SlimLine 1U™ LCD flip-up monitor and integral keyboard / trackball is used to provide system support and terminal weather data. Optimized for its ultra-low profile (1.75in high), the SlimLine 1U is designed to save valuable rack space and expense by providing a reliable and user-friendly operator interface. It is also designed to meet industrial and MIL-STD-810F and TEMPEST Level 2 requirements.
Numerous keyboard options are available with which to configure your unit. Choose from commercial, industrial and military grades. Many are NEMA4 / NEMA12 sealed and meet MIL-STD-810F, MIL-STD-901D and MIL-STD-167B shock and vibration requirements. The pointing device for most keyboards is a 1.375in, durable, sealed trackball. Available keyboard-trackball interfaces are PS/2, PC and Sun USB, and Sun Type 5 (eight-pin mini DIN).
The SlimLine 1U's compact design and industrial durability, combined with General Digital's legendary configuration control and long product lifecycles, make it the ideal rack-mount solution for network administration, telecommunications, mobile applications, and more.
