SURFACE MOVEMENT SYSTEMS

Around the world, as airports become busier and more complex, Advanced Surface Movement and Guidance Control Systems (A-SMGCS) are being deployed to address the serious risk of runway incursions. Era's proven and widely installed MSS delivers the critical cooperative surveillance required for today's A-SMGCS. It integrates multilateration and ADS-B position data, complies with all relevant standards (such as EUROCAE ED-117) and interfaces with any A-SMGCS application.

Era's unique ability to combine distributed timing architecture (based on GPS or reference transponders) with central timing architecture (ideally suited to complex airport layouts) ensures that each system can be optimized to the unique requirements and constraints of each airport. Cooperative surveillance provides better coverage, more accurate information and improved resilience to inclement weather when compared to Surface Movement Radar (SMR).

GROUND VEHICLE TRACKING

Incursion by ground vehicles into safety critical areas is a significant contributor to the number of reported incidents and is a continued risk to aviation safety. Squid by Era addresses this issue by providing a low cost, easily installed and standards compliant vehicle-mounted ADS-B transponder, which broadcasts the position of each vehicle using the same technology used by aircraft.

Squid by Era can be permanently or magnetically mounted to tugs, fire appliances, de-icing equipment and all airside vehicles ensuring that the complete picture is available to the control tower, with each vehicle clearly and uniquely identified. Rigorous standards adherence means that Squid by Era devices will work seamlessly with existing ADS-B and multilateration surveillance solutions from other vendors.

TERMINAL AND WIDE AREA SURVEILLANCE

Era's high-performance, cost-effective and highly flexible surveillance technology out-performs traditional Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR). MSS by Era is type-certified in various countries against radar standards, such as ICAO Annex 10, and has been operationally certified for 3nm approach separation. AUTOMATIC DEPENDENT SURVEILLANCE-BROADCAST

Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) will undoubtedly play a critical role in tomorrow's air traffic management infrastructure; however, the full implementation of ADS-B will not be realized for many years.

MSS by Era decodes ADS-B signals according to all applicable standards (such as RTCA DO-260A) and can be configured as a standalone network of redundant ADS-B ground-stations, capable of independent ASTERIX output. With Era's combination of ADS-B functionality and multilateration surveillance, next generation surveillance becomes deployable today.
