delair Air Traffic Systems, a solutions provider for optimising airport processes, has received a delivering order of 'sally racetrack' from Zurich International Airport. 'sally racetrack', a module of the resource management system 'sally', is used for optimising and planning baggage conveyor belts to avoid overloading on carousels.
For many years Unique, operator of Zurich International Airport, has successfully used the 'sally stand' planning systems for the stand allocation and 'sally gate' for the gate waiting area. In the future, Unique will be using 'sally racetrack' for the planning of baggage carousels.
'sally racetrack' applies the same powerful and fast algorithm for resource planning as used in all other modules in the 'sally' product family. 'sally' is used in the provisioning of essential airport resources and planning matters including pre-planning of future airports, airport enhancements, seasonal planning and daily resource planning. Based on rule sets generated from airport experts, 'sally racetrack' is able to perform an automatic allocation of the baggage conveyor belts for certain events (for example, the landing of an airplane). With 'sally racetrack' the allocations are monitored from the dispatcher and can be controlled manually. With the powerful and intuitively created rule sets an optimised and highly flexible handling of baggage carousels can be ensured. Experiments are carried out to determine if, for example, the number and dimensions of baggage conveyor belts will be sufficient in the future.
With 'sally racetrack', Zurich Airport can rely on an internationally proven standard product which features a fast planning algorithm, high flexibility and user-friendly handling.
A-CDM
'sally' is part of delair’s A-CDM product family (advanced collaborative decision making). The products help to reduce fuel consumption, noise and pollutant emissions through reduced holdings, shorter flight times in the TMA (terminal maneuvering area), shorter taxi times before take-off and optimised procedures. The product suite includes the A-CDM platform as the interface between delair’s applications and external systems, as well as other advanced planning tools. The advanced tools consist of the arrival and departure manager 'darts4D', which was developed in cooperation with DFS. It was based on the DFS arrival manager '4D-Planner' and the departure manager 'darts' from delair, as well as the resource manager 'sally' and the electronic flight strip system 'focus'.
