Barco Premieres 24in Wide-Screen Traffic-Control Display at ATC Maastricht

14 February 2006

At ATC Maastricht 2006, visualization specialist Barco is presenting a brand-new high-bright display solution for use in Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower environments. This new wide-screen display, the TCD-361, is Barco's answer to the growing need for larger display surfaces, generated by the increasing use of advanced software tools in today's ATC towers.

Barco's new TCD-361 has been engineered to provide excellent readability and user-comfort in ATC towers, an environment characterized by difficult ambient light conditions and constrained space. Unlike consumer displays, the 24in display combines high brightness with a wide dimming ratio. An intelligent ambient light compensation function automatically adjusts brightness settings to compensate for changing ambient light conditions, while Barco's unique Automatic Phase Adjust technology guarantees artifact-free images at all times.

With its wide-screen WUXGA (1,920px x 1,200px) display, the TCD-361 brings 50% more screen surface compared to traditional 19in displays. Moreover, its slim-line design allows for outstanding space savings in the tower, while guaranteeing an unobstructed view outside.

The display is easy to set up and provides internal stabilization, calibration and several Built-In Test (BIT) patterns for easy diagnostics. The TCD-361 offers long-lifetime and low-noise operation thanks to its thermal management design. In addition, the optional health and configuration software continuously checks the TCD-361 displays for their online status and warns system administrators for preventive maintenance actions.

The new TCD-361 tower control display is already commercially available.
