One of the most on-time airports in the world uses UFIS Airport Solutions’ (UFIS-AS) universal flight information system (UFIS®). Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is ranked number five in Forbes Traveler‘s On-Time Airports list, with 84.4% flights on time in 2008. Bangkok is also one of the busiest in the world — ranked 18th in total passenger traffic in 2008, according to Airport Council International. According to Forbes Traveler, 82.9% of the flights at Bangkok arrived on time, while 86% departed on time.

“Having the fifth most-on-time airport [worldwide] use the UFIS product suite is an excellent reference for UFIS Airport Solutions,” said Anders Sagadin, UFIS-AS’s president and CEO. “This shows the benefits our product line has for our customers as well as its quality and reliability.”

UFIS products have been in use at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport since its opening in 2006. The UFIS flight information processing system (FIPS), along with the airport operational database (AODB), is used in the airport’s airport operational control centre to manage and assign the airport’s airside and landside resources. The AODB together with the information broker provides the integration platform for more than 50 systems at the airport.

In 2008, UFIS-AS helped Thai Airways (TG) open a ground operations control centre (GOCC) that uses UFIS products including FIPS, status manager and flight data tool. These software modules allow TG business units to serve their aircraft effectively.

When the railway link to the airport is opened, passengers will be able to see their flight before they board the train to the airport. As a collaborative partner to Siemens, UFIS-AS is delivering its flight information display system (FIDS) to the State Railway of Thailand, with integration to the AODB at the airport.
