In January 2010 ICTS Europe was awarded Bristol International Airport’s (BIA) three year contract for the provision of general airport security services, including: central search, perimeter patrol, X-Ray of all goods to the airport, traffic control, staffing of BIA’s reception and ID office.
A heightened passenger experience was BIA’s underlying theme for change and ICTS Europe complimented this strategy. Not only were new positions (Flow Controllers) incorporated to the operations, Smart Queue (SmartQ) – a newly developed in-house solution was implemented. This innovative idea was to serve as a management and control system for customer flow.
Multiple types of boarding passes are automatically scanned and validated against flight details (time and zone), whilst checking for duplicate boarding cards. Passengers are then instructed which queue to join for further security checks, streamlining the whole experience leading to the airside.
SmartQ can be configured to issue alerts based on defined rules. An example of such a rule may be to alert the user when a passenger boarding pass is scanned with less than 30 minutes left to departure time. Having this alert would allow staff to aid the passenger more effectively.
SmartQ also allows for deep-level reporting of passenger volumes, number of passengers vs. flights, time & motion studies and so on.
Paul Davies, Operations Director at Bristol International Airport, said: “We are delighted that ICTS will be playing an increased role at BIA, delivering a first-class service to passengers."
