Detector Dogs Australia has won a contract to supply explosive detection and bomb detection dogs to the Sri Lankan Air Force.
The K-9 shipment will be responsible for screening vehicles, luggage and suspicious containers, and walking areas in which an explosive item might be left if security measures were breached.
"It's been proven that some dogs can detect odours of narcotics and explosives in parts per billion, which means that a dog has a greater ability to detect odours or intruders than any type of mechanical equipment," says Detector Dogs Australia's CEO Kris Kotsopoulos said.
Australia's longest serving private sector detection firm, Detector Dogs Australia prides itself on being a quality services company and now maintains a working presence across the Pacific Rim.
"We don't consider ourselves to be a dog company," Kris Kotsopoulos says "Our primary technology is old-fashioned, low-tech dogs and their noses and teeth, but we're big subscribers to a layered technology approach to protection. Our approach is to layer what we do with the dogs with other technologies, such as trace detection technology that works very specifically on odours, but can't cover the area or work fast enough to accomplish all the goals that we can with dogs."
