Avionics - Airfield Lighting Installation and Docking Solutions

Avionics' core business is the installation and maintenance of airfield lighting, navigational aids and control and monitoring systems. Our personnel are professionally and specifically trained in airfield lighting installations (operational or greenfield), including the supply, installation and maintenance of aerobridges and visual docking guidance systems.

Airfield lighting installation and maintenance

A comprehensive range of services, including installation of airfield lighting, taxiway guidance signs, and the design and construction of airfield lighting control systems, can be provided by Avionics.

Avionics provides specialist airfield lighting expertise with qualified professionals on hand to resolve any installation or maintenance issue your airport may have.

The company has recently won a major airfield lighting works package at Sydney Airport. The project is a stepping stone for Sydney, moving the category of the airfield to CAT III status.

We have extensive expertise with the Australian Department of Defence. We have two projects currently under completion at Army Aviation Centre Oakey (Queensland) and RAAF Base Williams (Pt Cook, Victoria), and intend to expand our business both locally and internationally through the defence market.

Avionics' senior management have been involved in every major airport lighting project in South East Asia over the past 18 years - including the construction of Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport - as well as in Sydney Airport's Olympics upgrades, and the A380 runway upgrade projects at both Sydney and Melbourne.

Visual docking guidance systems

Avionics can provide your airport with experienced and expert VDGS technicians to supply, install and maintain your airport's systems. FMT's laser-based docking system is called APIS.

QANTAS has recently engaged Avionics to look after 16 gates at Sydney Airport's T3. We also repair and maintain FMT's VDGS systems in Perth (three APIS), Brisbane (four APIS), Canberra (two APIS), Adelaide (18 APIS), Sydney T1 (20 APIS) and Melbourne (five APIS).

Passenger boarding bridges

FMT can provide integrated and fully automatic boarding bridge systems, including over-the-wing automatic bridge systems already in use in the US.

With the advantage of FMT's integrated system, new large aircraft like the A380 can achieve turnaround within 30 minutes by using three boarding bridges, of which one is to the upper deck, one to the front door and the third over the wing.

FMT has 15 years of experience in the design of automatic over-the-wing bridges.

Apron management systems

For IT apron management systems, FMT uses the Atlantis airport IT system.

Atlantis has been developed to integrate all planning, control, management and service functions of an airport into a single operational information repository, focusing on the turnaround process rather than individual technical systems.

The Atlantis software enables airports to automate operations making the best use of gates, check-in counters, ramp equipment and staff. With Atlantis operators can supervise ongoing operations and status of attached systems such as PBB, VDGS, 400Hz, PCA, fuel, etc.

Features included are automatic rescheduling of gates in case of equipment breakdown, automatic collection of financial data, automatic invoice transfers, true equipment availability and reliability statistics, automatic allocation and notification of service engineers in case of equipment failure, automatic drive and connection of bridges.

Atlantis continuously keeps track of all events, including ON/OFF block and other usage parameters from the ongoing operations. All information is presented on a multilevel graphical map of the airport, its terminals and gates. Aircraft are displayed as scaled-down images of the actual aircraft types.

Other information includes flight information and equipment status.

CCTV video

Atlantis also integrates CCTV video using either Ethernet-based digital cameras or existing proprietary CCTV systems.

Operational data, status, financial and statistical information

By linking all equipment used in the turnaround process to the central information repository Atlantis enables the automatic retrieval and exchange of consistent and accurate operational data, status, financial and statistical information.

Integrated aircraft gate system

Avionics is the sole distributor and partner of FMT Gate Support Systems (Sweden), in Australia and New Zealand. We can design, supply, manufacture, install and maintain passenger boarding bridges for aircraft and visual docking guidance systems (VDGS) at your airport.

The FMT unique (and patented) integrated aircraft gate system – through which FMT's passenger boarding bridges, visual docking guidance systems and apron management systems are linked – forms a singular seamless interface of one manufacturer's components. This integration is the key to reaching the ultimate goals of safety, flexibility, speed and efficiency in the turnaround of aircraft.
