atg airports have recently attended Sydney airport to complete project works associated with the airfield ground lighting control system.
The AGL control system installed at the airport is the smartcontrol system, which is in use at many international airports worldwide. The main requirement of the project was to integrate the newly installed RVR system to the SMGCS control system.
Due to the flexibility of the smartcontrol software/hardware, interfacing with this type of AGL equipment is relatively straight forward. To enable site time to be reduced to a minimum, the control system software and graphical mimic for the touch screen was modified in house and tested on a simulation facility to ensure that the full system requirements were tested prior to its implementation on site.
Due to the preparation and planning of the changeover by Sydney Airport, atg airports, and our local representative within this territory, the change over to the new software went smoothly and enabled the downtime of the system to be kept to an absolute minimum.
Following on from this project, atg airports have recently been awarded a new contract to further expand the AGL control system with over 500 additional smart switches. The smart switch is used for individual lamp switching and also to report the true status of individual lamps. All of this information can then be displayed to the operator graphically on the touch screen in the tower, or on any of the maintenance terminals throughout the system.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sydney Airport for their confidence with atg airports to manage such a prestigious project and we look forward to implementing the new project in the near future.
